The Chained Coffin Unboxing

The Chained Coffin was a Kickstarter Goodman Games ran to produce a boxed module set for the Dungeon Crawl Classics RPG. That Kickstarter ended in early June and resulted in a boxed set containing The Chained Coffin module, a puzzle made of three spinning wheels, a gazetteer, and a couple of extra mini-adventures, and a mid-sized poster map.

There were also numerous stretch goals for this Kickstarter with some extras. These ranged from deals on existing modules, flasks, and more. I just checked and had gone in for the $30 backer level. It turned out to be an outstanding deal for me for the amount of material I received. This should easily be enough for me to base my next DCC campaign in this region.

There have been a few sightings of the boxed set arriving at various places in previous weeks. Mine arrived today!  What follows are some unboxing pictures as folks around the Internet wait for theirs to arrive!

Note: I have not included any pictures of the puzzle. I don’t want to spoil that for anybody, so you will have to take my word that it is cool and will be a great table prop! (too bad I will be running this online and not in a face-to-face game.)

Whisper & Venom Unboxing

Lesser Gnome Games ran a Kickstarter earlier this year for what they called a boutique adventure box set. The boxed set was to include lots of minis to go with it, an adventure written with the OSR community in mind (though a conversion to Pathfinder is forthcoming in the Spring), dice, poster maps, etc – all in a box!

I interviewed Zach Glazar, the man behind the project, here at The Iron Tavern. I also posted the unrolling pics of the signed poster map back in November.

Earlier this week the rest of my Kickstarter arrived. A carefully bubble wrapped boxed set that was graced with awesome artwork from Jeff Dee on the front and packed full of gaming goodness.

Before we move to the unboxing pics (and there are lots of them!), I just want to say this was probably the best run Kickstarter (right up there with the Dwarven Forge Kickstarter) I have participated in yet. I’ve actually had a good run with Kickstarter and not had the bad experiences that many others have had. I am fairly picky in choosing what I wish to back and that has paid off. Lesser Gnome Games delivered well within the time frame they said they would and everything was included with the product they said would be included. Given this was a print product including a box to hold it all – I found this quite impressive. Communication during the project was phenomenal and the product actually exceeded my expectations.

I rarely rush to show my wife the cool things I received today in the mail from Kickstarters, Lulu deals, and such. But this time once I finished the pics I took it to her to show her how cool the set was. Definitely an impressive product from Lesser Gnome Games and I am glad I was in on the Kickstarter.

I hope you enjoy the unboxing pics!

Rise of the Runelords Unboxing

I was a bit of a latecomer to Pathfinder Adventure Paths when they started. Well, more accurately, I was one of the ones thinking no way will this ever work. Of course a couple of years later as I start getting into the Pathfinder ruleset and checking out the Adventure Paths I realized the error of my ways. By that time however, Rise of the Runelords was already getting slightly more difficult to track down.

So when Paizo announced they were doing a Rise of the Runelords anniversary release to celebrate ten years in business and the five year mark of the Adventure Path product, I knew I had to get that book. Today my pre-ordered book arrived!

Technically the Rise of the Runelords Anniversary book is a hardback, not a boxed set. But the book arrived in a shipping box, so this post gets the title of unboxing! Plus I was excited to see it arrive!

Before I move to the pictures, here is what the book contains (from the Paizo product page):

  • All six chapters of the original Adventure Path, expanded and updated for use with the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game.
  • Articles on the major locations of Rise of the Runelords: sleepy Sandpoint, the ancient Thassilonian city of Xin-Shalast, and others.
  • Revelations on the sinister magic of Thassilon, with updated spells, magic items, and details on tracking sin points throughout the campaign.
  • A bestiary featuring eight monsters updated from the original Adventure Path, plus an all-new terror.
  • Dozens of new illustrations, never-before-seen characters, location maps, and more!

And now the unboxing!
